Overview
Volkswagen DL501 is not one fluid capacity or one vehicle application; case, engine, ratio set, torque capacity, mechatronics and software variants must be separated.
Do not decide on mechanical overhaul before checking engine torque management, system voltage, cooling and network communication.
Architecture and torque flow
- Engine torque passes through a clutch, torque converter or power-split element to the ratio set.
- TCU monitors input/output speed and selected ratio.

- Save freeze frame, input/output speed, commanded gear and clutch slip.
- Separate electrical/solenoid faults from hydraulic pressure and mechanical slip.

- Verify fluid level and leaks.
- Perform required basic settings/adaptation.
- Test safely in cold and hot conditions.
- Recheck pending DTCs, temperature and slip.
