MEASUREMENT

Signals that produce evidence

Overview

In a 48V mild-hybrid system, the 12V battery, 48V battery, BSG/ISG and DC/DC converter form one energy chain. A voltage drop or resistance on one side can appear as start-stop, steering, brake-assist or charging warnings elsewhere.

Record both networks at rest and under load on the same time axis. A stable 48V side with a collapsing 12V output points to the converter or 12V distribution path; both sides falling together shifts attention to main connections, the 48V battery or BSG generation.

Converter ripple may be invisible in average voltage. Use an AC-coupled oscilloscope with suitable bandwidth and record current direction, temperature and operating mode.

Separate mechanical belt slip from electrical torque-production faults by comparing belt condition, BSG torque command, phase current and rotor speed.

After repair, test start-stop, boost and regeneration while monitoring 12V stability, 48V current and converter temperature under several loads.
