Overview
Low rail pressure does not identify a single component. Tank supply, filter, quantity-control valve, high-pressure pump, rail regulator and injector return flow belong to one pressure chain.
Start with commanded-versus-actual pressure during cranking, idle and load. Interpret how actual pressure follows the target together with control-valve command and engine speed. Slow rise, sudden collapse and oscillation point to different paths.
Verify low-pressure supply and filter condition before replacing the pump. Injector return flow helps distinguish excessive leakage from insufficient pump delivery.
The quantity-control valve can be assessed through current ramp as well as duty cycle. Command without current suggests an electrical fault; current without pressure response suggests a hydraulic or mechanical fault.
If metallic contamination is suspected, evaluate the complete fuel circuit according to the manufacturer procedure rather than replacing only the pump.
