Test the circuit, not just the sensor
- A DTC containing a sensor name does not prove the sensor failed. Evaluate reference/supply, ground, signal, connector and ECU side together.
- One short on a shared reference can trigger multiple sensor codes.
Voltage drop
- A circuit can look correct unloaded and collapse under load. Verify supply and ground under appropriate load.
- Resistance measurement alone may miss high-resistance contact faults.
Signal rationality
- A signal can stay electrically in range while being physically implausible.
- Compare pressure, temperature, position or speed signals with an independent reference when possible.
Oscilloscope use
- For fast dropouts, PWM, Hall or inductive sensors, time-based capture may reveal more than a multimeter.

- Verify vehicle and system identity.
- Preserve codes and first-event data before clearing.
- Compare commanded values with actual feedback under the same condition.
- Verify power, ground, signal/network and the physical system with independent measurement.
- Isolate root cause and justify the parts decision with evidence.
