EV Battery Health: SOH Is More Than One Number

SOH is not a universal measurement
Manufacturers calculate state of health differently, so displayed SOH should be considered alongside usable energy and cell/module balance.
- Do not treat the dashboard percentage as a capacity test.
- Compare energy use under similar temperature and route conditions.
- Inspect cell/module delta under meaningful load.
Thermal history changes battery behaviour
Temperature influences ageing, charge power and performance limits.
- Check coolant pumps, valves, chiller or heat-pump operation.
- Watch battery temperature and power during fast charging.
- Consider prolonged high-SOC and high-temperature use when history is available.
Isolation faults are high-voltage safety events
HV isolation problems require the manufacturer safety process rather than ordinary low-voltage probing.
- Use the required PPE and safe shutdown procedure.
- Separate moisture, coolant and HV component faults systematically.
- Leave pack opening and internal HV work to qualified technicians.
