Identity comes first

  • The same model may use different transmission families or software variants. Verify transmission code, TCM identity and build period.
  • Fluid type/level and checking procedure are application-specific.

Speed and ratio logic

  • Monitor input/output speed, commanded gear/ratio and actual ratio on the same time base.
  • Slip can result from speed-sensor, hydraulic-pressure or real clutch/band faults.

Solenoids and hydraulics

  • Compare solenoid command with current/voltage behavior. If electrical command exists without pressure/response, separate hydraulic-mechanical causes.
  • Evaluate valve-body behavior, pressure regulation and temperature effects under load.

Adaptation

  • Some applications require manufacturer-defined relearn. Resetting adaptation without solving root cause is not diagnosis.

  • Verify vehicle and system identity.
  • Preserve codes and first-event data before clearing.
  • Compare commanded values with actual feedback under the same condition.
  • Verify power, ground, signal/network and the physical system with independent measurement.
  • Isolate root cause and justify the parts decision with evidence.
  • After repair, reproduce the original condition when practical and retest.
