Start with 12 V and safety

  • If the HV system will not enable, auxiliary 12 V, wake conditions and interlock are among the first checks.
  • HV measurement requires training, suitable PPE, manufacturer isolation procedures and category-rated equipment.

Read BMS data in context

  • SOC/SOH alone is not a battery-health decision. Evaluate cell deviation, temperature, current, usable energy and event history together.
  • Cell deviation under load may differ from a static parked measurement.

Contactors and isolation

  • Compare contactor command with actual HV state and precharge behavior.
  • For isolation faults, evaluate battery, inverter, motor, A/C compressor, heater and HV cabling as separate subsystems.

Thermal management

  • Temperature spread, pump/valve commands and cooling performance can influence charging and power limits.

6-step diagnostic workflow

  • Verify vehicle and system identity.
  • Preserve codes and first-event data before clearing.
  • Compare commanded values with actual feedback under the same condition.
  • Verify power, ground, signal/network and the physical system with independent measurement.
  • Isolate root cause and justify the parts decision with evidence.
  • After repair, reproduce the original condition when practical and retest.

Service and application decision

Connect general diagnostic logic to the exact vehicle application. Use manufacturer service information and verified vehicle identity for exact pins, torque values, pressure thresholds, calibration and procedures.

Source and verification boundary

This guide explains system logic and diagnostic sequence. Application-specific exact values are not invented without sources.
